Founded in 1957, Bishop Montgomery High School has been serving twenty-five parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet, Conventual Franciscans, and lay faculty originally staffed it.
Bishop Montgomery High School sits on a 24-acre campus in Torrance California. This location places it just a mile from the Pacific Ocean and the Del Amo Mall. Named for Bishop George Thomas Montgomery, the school honors his advocacy for parental choice in education. He was the first American-born Bishop of Monterey-Los Angeles. He insisted that the government recognize the rights of parents. They should be able to send their children to the school of their choice.
The school is commonly called BMHS or simply Bishop by students. Bishop Montgomery High School prides itself on its comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Sports offered at Bishop Montgomery High School are diverse. They include football, volleyball, softball, and soccer. Students can also participate in cross country, track and field, golf, and tennis. Basketball, baseball, swimming, song team, pep flags, surf, and even eSports are available.
The Music Department at Bishop Montgomery High School offers academic classes. Campus music ministry and performing ensembles are also available. Academic classes include Music Theory, Music History, and Music Production. The campus music ministry prepares music for school masses. Performing ensembles include the Knight Band and Color Guard. There is also a Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and Vocal Jazz. Rock Band, Drumline, and String Ensemble round out the options. The department even hosted a spring SCSBOA Solo Ensemble Festival. Eighty participants traveled to Washington D.C. to perform at the World War II Memorial.

Justin Bibbins plays professional basketball in Italy. Carmelita Jeter is a gold-medalist sprinter. Sigi Schmid is in the US Soccer Hall of Fame. Noelle Quinn is the head coach of the Seattle Storm.

Bishop Montgomery High School has produced 30 CIF-SS championship teams. It also has 17 CIF-SS individual champions and 14 state championship teams. Over 700 graduates have advanced to collegiate teams. Almost 60 have competed professionally.
