Driven by a shared vision, a group of faithful individuals embarked on a remarkable journey. In 1976, the elders of the Spring Branch church of Christ in Houston recognized a need. They saw a spiritual void in the northwest Houston area, specifically around FM 1960. This led them to employ W.R. Jones. His mission was to establish a new congregation. The Klein Area Church of Christ, initially known as Kleinwood church of Christ, held its first service on January 16, 1977. The location was humble. They met at Wunderlich Intermediate School on Misty Valley. Just seventeen adults gathered that first Sunday. Yet, their numbers quickly grew, nurtured by a shared faith and a commitment to biblical teachings. The Klein Area Church of Christ flourished in the burgeoning FM 1960 area. The community’s growth provided ample opportunities for outreach and spiritual growth. This early success allowed the congregation to fully support W.R. Jones. They purchased land on Misty Valley, across from Klein Forest High School. They built first a classroom building, then a separate worship space. These structures were designed with future expansion in mind. As the Klein Area Church of Christ continued to grow, a new chapter began. In 1998, the church moved to its present location on Kleinwood Drive in Spring, Texas. This move facilitated even greater expansion. The Klein Area Church of Christ has remained true to its founding principles. The church models its mission and work after the New Testament church. It emphasizes a sincere commitment to God’s commands and the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Klein Area Church of Christ’s story is a testament to the power of faith and community. From a small gathering at an intermediate school, it has blossomed into a thriving congregation. Its journey reflects a steadfast dedication to biblical principles and a commitment to serving the community.
