New Hope Church of God

In 2012, a spark ignited in San Antonio, giving rise to the New Hope United Church of God (Seventh Day). This wasn’t your typical church planting. This was a merger, a “re-planting” of two existing congregations: Heart of Worship Church of God (Seventh Day) and Living Rock Church of God (Seventh Day). The members of these two churches, sharing a common vision, joined forces to create something new. New Hope United Church of God aimed to break the mold. They envisioned a church free from small-mindedness, inward focus, and empty traditions. Their goal was to think big, focus outward, and leave a lasting legacy. Four pillars formed the foundation of New Hope United Church of God: The Gospel Message, Passionate Worship, Discipling Believers, and Love in Action. For two years, the congregation didn’t have a permanent home. They held services at the Dan Cook Center downtown and later at Jesus’ Church. During this time, they focused on building relationships, serving the community, and planning for the future. Their perseverance paid off. In August 2015, New Hope United Church of God purchased their current facility on Higgins Road. This location placed them right next door to an elementary school and nestled within a suburban neighborhood, conveniently located for most of their members. They had finally found a place to put down roots. The church appointed Israel Steinmetz as their first Lead Pastor in 2017. Under his leadership, they experienced significant growth, deepening their commitment to worship, fellowship, service, and community outreach. When Pastor Steinmetz stepped down in 2021, the church embarked on a search for a new leader. Their prayers were answered. Pastor Michael Mancha and his family returned to San Antonio after serving in Oregon. He assumed the role of Lead Pastor in August 2021, marking a new chapter in the New Hope United Church of God story.
