Hidden in plain sight, Burkhalter Baptist Church has a fascinating story to tell. This church wasn’t always at this location, nor did it always have this name. Originally established in 1951, the Burkhalter Baptist Church began its life under the sponsorship of Taliaferro Baptist Church, now known as Whitemarsh Island Baptist Church. Imagine the excitement of the early congregation as they built their first home on Buckhalter Road, near present-day Montgomery Crossroad and Abercorn Extension. This first structure, completed in 1953, served as a mission until 1956 when it officially became a church. The Burkhalter Baptist Church thrived in that location for over three decades. Then in 1985, the church community embarked on a new chapter, relocating to its current location at the intersection of Middleground and Montgomery Cross roads. Years later, in 2007, the church underwent another transformation, changing its name to The CrossRoad Baptist Church. While the name has changed, the spirit of faith and community established within the Burkhalter Baptist Church continues to resonate within these walls. The legacy of those early days, the dedication to their faith, shaped the church we see today. So, as you stand here, at the CrossRoad Baptist Church, remember the journey. Remember the Burkhalter Baptist Church, its humble beginnings and its enduring spirit.
