Constructed in 1889, Pao Kong Temple stands as a testament to faith and legend. This vibrant temple, also known as Pau King or Bao Gong, is part of a three-temple complex on Rua de Coelho do Amaral. Its bright yellow walls and bold red Chinese characters beckon visitors to explore its rich history. Pao Kong Temple honors Lord Pao, a revered figure in Chinese history. In 1888, a plague gripped Macau. Someone suggested using an effigy of Lord Pao to ward off the disease. When the plague subsided, people attributed the miracle to Lord Pao. They erected Pao Kong Temple to enshrine his effigy and express their gratitude. This temple also goes by another name, the Temple of Sleeping Buddha.
