Mt. Bethel Baptist Church started in 1929. Rev. Joseph S. Stevens organized it in Harlem. The church has a history of service in Northern Manhattan and the South Bronx.
In June 1937, Mt. Bethel Baptist Church became incorporated. It moved to different locations. In April 1952, it found a home at 112 West 116 Street. A fire destroyed the church on January 1, 1971. Renovations followed and they returned in February 1972.
The church sold its first location in 2003. They rented space at 1854 Amsterdam Avenue. In March 2006, Rev. Dr. Gloria Bradshaw became pastor. Despite challenges, the membership grew to over 100. The church decided to find a permanent home.
Under Rev. Dr. Bradshaw’s leadership, the church moved north. They purchased an old firehouse at 698 Courtlandt Avenue in the Bronx. Many church members lived in the Bronx. The move made sense.
Mt. Bethel Baptist Church experienced many changes. They always kept their faith. They now have a new home. Their hope is to remain steadfast in their faith.
Rev. Dr. Gloria Bradshaw’s 19th Pastoral Anniversary was celebrated. Services were held on March 16th and 22nd.
