Did you know that \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X’s story began with a simple request? Back in 1954 a formal request was submitted to the Archbishop of Montreal. It asked that the possibility of establishing a new parish be explored.
All religious services were being provided by the Parish Saint-Martin back then. After thorough consideration, the request was granted. The new parish was created.
The year was 1955. August 20 marked the founding of the \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X. It became the 16th parish in Laval. This happened just one year after Pope Pius X was canonized in 1954.
Jean Gualbert Vermette was appointed as the parish priest on September 14 1955. That same year, the Saint-Pie-X choir was founded. L\u00e9on Brien led it for 21 years. Later Ars\u00e8ne Sen\u00e9cal and Joseph Gu\u00e9nette took over.
The Caisse Populaire St-Pie-X was established on February 3 1959. The first mass in the church basement was held on June 24 1960.
November 20 1960 was a significant day. Parish priest Vermette blessed the cornerstone. Just a week later on November 27 Bishop Val\u00e9rien B\u00e9langer blessed the bell. It was named Jean Gualbert Vermette.
The first mass inside the \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X took place on Christmas Day in 1960. Also in 1960 the Stations of the Cross were installed. These were created by Carol Grenon.
Cardinal Paul-\u00c9mile Leger blessed the \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X on June 27 1961.
Over the years, \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X has been a hub for various activities. The Cercle des Fermi\u00e8res de Chomedey was founded in November 1963. In May 1978 the Club d’Age d’Or Les M\u00e8ches d’Argent was established. The Manoir Cardinal was inaugurated in June 1978. The R\u00e9sidence Chomedey was inaugurated in July 1979.
The parish celebrated its 25th anniversary in October 1980. Mgr Andr\u00e9 Cimichella presided over a special mass.
In August 1985 Abb\u00e9 Andr\u00e9 Perron became the parish priest. He resigned a year later due to health reasons. Abb\u00e9 Claude Brissette was appointed in September 1986.
The facade wall of the choir was renovated in January 1989. The triptych woodwork was installed. Carol Grenon created it. In December 1991 a marble statue of Mary was inaugurated. Carol Grenon also sculpted this.
In June 2016 Mgr Alain Faubert was appointed auxiliary bishop in Montreal.
In February 2000 two rooms adjacent to the church choir were blessed and inaugurated. Jean-Claude Laverdure created the paintings.
The \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2000. Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte consecrated the church on May 6 2000. Six consecration crosses were affixed to the church walls. A commemorative plaque was also installed.
By 2000 the parish had celebrated 2859 baptisms 3782 confirmations 889 marriages 886 funerals and over 20000 eucharists.
In July 2002 \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X hosted pilgrims for World Youth Day.
In September 2005 the Pastoral Unit Saint-Martin was created. Abb\u00e9 Pierre Sauvageau was appointed as parish priest.
The roof of the \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X sacristy and office were renovated in the spring of 2004.
The territory of the Parish Saint-Urbain was annexed to the \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X in October 2008. The two parishes merged. Since 2008 the St-Michael Archange community of the Coptic Orthodox Church has been celebrating their liturgy in the parish hall. Since 2009 the Saint-Joseph community of the Maronite Catholic Church has been celebrating mass in the church.
From 2009 to 2017 the Ch\u0153ur des Anges a children’s choir was created.
In 2010 \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first mass in the church. A commemorative plaque was installed.
In June 2011 a statue of Notre-Dame de Fatima was installed in front of the church.
Richard Cr\u00e9peau a very involved member of the parish passed away in December 2012.
In January 2013 a statue of Saint Brother Andr\u00e9 was installed in the church.
In September 2014 Patriarch Th\u00e9odore II visited the St-Michael Coptic Orthodox community.
In October 2015 the parish celebrated its 60th anniversary. A cross was installed outside the church.
In December 2015 a new nativity scene was placed in front of the main altar.
In December 2016 the Ch\u0153ur des Anges presented a Christmas concert.
In January 2018 the Archbishop of Montreal gave his wishes to the pastoral staff of the diocese.
In the summer of 2018 the carpet around the main altar was replaced.
In September 2018 Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi visited the Saint-Joseph community.
In December 2018 minor work was carried out in the church choir.
In September 2019 the parish library was inaugurated.
In October 2019 Abb\u00e9 Hubert de Palma passed away.
In December 2021 \u00c9glise Saint-Pie-X merged with the Parish Saint-Martin.
