Considering a peaceful escape in Los Angeles? Monteith Park awaits. This .6-acre park offers a serene retreat from the city’s hustle. It’s a small triangular-shaped haven.

Monteith Park provides relaxation for the View Park community. You will find picnic tables and park benches here. There is also a play area for children to enjoy.

Each year, Monteith Park hosts the annual Garden Tour and Fair. Flower lovers gather to explore local flora. Hundreds admire the diverse plant, shrub, and tree species.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation operates Monteith Park. The department has a long and proud history. It meets recreational needs through various means. These include programming, facilities, and land acquisition.

Before 1944, two entities managed parks. The Parks Division maintained physical aspects. The Department of Recreation administered programs. On July 1, 1944, they merged. This created the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Today, the Department owns 182 parks. These include natural areas and wildlife sanctuaries. You can also find lakes, trails, and gardens.

Monteith Park also plays a role in local water management. The View Park Green Alley Stormwater Improvements Project helps here. It captures runoff from surrounding areas. This helps offset drought conditions. It also improves water quality in Ballona Creek and Santa Monica Bay.

Several partners support this project. These include Los Angeles County and the Coastal Conservancy. Funding comes from various sources, including state bonds.

In 2023 and 2024, Monteith Park underwent construction for stormwater improvements. These improvements are for water quality. The park temporarily closed to the public. Community information sessions kept residents informed. These sessions were held in person and virtually.

Landscaping work was completed in late October 2024. New grass was planted. The park reopened to the neighborhood in December 2024. The View Park Alley was completed around the same time.

Visiting Monteith Park offers a peaceful escape. Park hours vary depending on the time of year. From March 1st to October 31st, it’s open from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm. From November 1st to February 28th, hours are 6:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Take a moment to appreciate the blend of recreation and environmental stewardship. Monteith Park makes life better. It offers a tranquil space for all to enjoy.
