Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Lick Hung. A phoenix from ashes, thrice reborn. The story of SJK (C) Lick Hung begins not here in bustling Subang Jaya, but in the forgotten village of Bangsarut in 1939. Funded by villagers, a temporary structure rose in Yiyada. It was a beacon of knowledge, a testament to the community’s thirst for education. Then came the Second World War, and with it, demolition. Bangsarut vanished, but the school’s spirit remained. The villagers, with unwavering resolve, rebuilt their school in Bangsarut. Progress, however, has a price. In 1957, plans for a new highway to Petaling Jaya meant another demolition. The school, again displaced, found a temporary perch on a nearby hilltop. Imagine children learning amidst the construction of a burgeoning city. 1958 brought government recognition and subsidies, under Chairman Lu Kun JP and Principal Ms. Chen Rennian. Then, a permanent home. The Kuala Lumpur City Education Bureau allocated land and funds for a six-classroom building. In 1960, this new SJK (C) Lick Hung opened its doors. Datuk Teo Si Yuan, Selangor Legislator, officiated the ceremony. Yet challenges persisted. Dwindling student numbers threatened the school’s survival. Ms. Zhou Suying, the head of the board, recognized the need for change. Relocation to a more populated area was the only solution. After a long struggle, they secured a spot in Subang Jaya. Six classrooms marked this third incarnation of SJK (C) Lick Hung, opening in December 1991 with Ms. Zhu Suyan at the helm. The school blossomed. The Parent-Teacher Association raised funds for three multi-purpose classrooms in 1992. Six more classrooms arrived under the Sixth Malaysia Plan. Still, the growing student body demanded more. A building committee formed in 1993, spearheading the construction of 12 additional classrooms, completed in 1994. The growth continued. Dato’ Chen Yingnan led the second phase of construction, culminating in a magnificent 28-classroom building, opened in 1997. The student population swelled to 2,232, occupying 72 classrooms. Transport Minister and MCA President Datuk Seri Dr. Lim Leong Sik graced the official opening. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Lick Hung stands today as a symbol of resilience. Three times it faced destruction, three times it rose stronger. It stands as a tribute to the unwavering dedication of villagers, educators, and community leaders who believed in the power of education.
