Korle-Klottey Municipal District was created on February 19 2019. It was formed from a portion of the Accra Metropolitan District. The remaining part of the original district remained as Accra Metropolitan District.
This area is one of the twenty-nine districts in the Greater Accra Region. It is located in the central part of the region. Osu serves as its capital town. The municipality’s establishment is rooted in the Local Government Act of 1993. This act was later amended as the Local Government Act 2016. Legislative Instrument LI 2365 officially established it.
Covering just 12 square kilometers Korle-Klottey represents a small but vital part of the Greater Accra Region. Specifically it makes up 0.37% of the region’s total land size.
In 2021 the population was recorded at 68633. This consists of 33108 males and 35525 females. The district lies between specific latitudes and longitudes. These are Latitudes 5°32’50” N and Longitudes 0°11’15” W. The other coordinates are Latitudes 5°38’0″ N and Longitudes 0°07’50” W.
The Municipal Chief Executive MCE leads the Korle-Klottey Municipal Assembly KoKMA. The President nominates the MCE. Then the Assembly Members approve that nomination. The MCE heads the Executive Committee. This committee reviews reports from sub-committees. The Municipal Coordinating Director ensures smooth operations. This director coordinates various departments and acts as secretary to the General Assembly.
