Picture a simple brush arbor. Imagine the scent of pine needles and damp earth. This humble structure near Lloyd Corn’s home is where the story of Welcome Grove Baptist Church begins. Five weeks of revival meetings. Powerful sermons resonating through the trees. This was the crucible. The birthplace of this Atlanta institution.

Welcome Grove Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith and community. Established on September 6 1953 it’s a living history. The dedication of its founders is palpable. You can almost hear their voices echoing in the very foundation stones. They met in a brush arbor. Then they moved to a vacant room. Finally they built their first church. It was a small structure 30 by 60 feet. The cost was around $1400. Amazing isn’t it? The first service was held on Thanksgiving Day in 1953.

Think about the challenges they faced. Raising money. Finding materials. Building a church from scratch. It was no small feat. The dedication and community spirit of the early members truly shines through. The first pastor was Rev H C Williams. The church clerk was Bro Lloyd Corn. He was also on the building committee. Bro Virgil Wigley chaired this committee. Their commitment laid the groundwork for future generations.

Over the years Welcome Grove Baptist Church has had many pastors. Each one leaving their mark. From Hubert Williams to Jeff Clark the current pastor. Their leadership guided the congregation. They shaped the church’s identity. The list of pastors is long. It’s a roll call of faith and service. Each one contributing to the church’s rich history.

Today Welcome Grove Baptist Church stands as a symbol of enduring faith. The church still stands today. It is a vibrant community hub. A place where people come together to worship. To support one another. To celebrate life’s joys and find comfort during hardships. It’s more than just a building. It’s a family. It’s a legacy. It’s a story of faith resilience and unwavering community spirit. The spirit of those first meetings in the brush arbor continues to this day. Welcome Grove Baptist Church a living testament to the power of faith.
