Imagine stepping onto the grounds of St Benedict School. The air is filled with the sound of laughter and the buzz of activity. This is no ordinary school. It is a place where a small, humble beginning blossomed into a thriving educational haven.

Standing in front of you is St Benedict School, established in 1956 in a small wooden house near Mariannhill. The school started with just 32 students, dedicated to providing a nurturing environment where students could grow intellectually, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. This was the humble beginning of St Benedict School, a small school with big dreams.

As you walk through the school’s halls, you can almost hear the echoes of the past. In 1971, a tragic fire destroyed many classrooms in the primary section. But the spirit of St Benedict School was not dampened. In a remarkable display of community spirit, the Parent-Teacher Association, led by Mr Chris Phillips, undertook the colossal task of rebuilding the school. The classrooms were rebuilt over the Christmas holidays, ready for students in the new year.

The school continued to grow and evolve. Under the leadership of Sister Clair Wade, who became principal in 1990, St Benedict School embraced the Whole Brain Learning approach. This approach acknowledged the existence of seven different intelligences, allowing students to excel in areas beyond just language and math. Music, creativity, movement, and interpersonal skills were all incorporated into the daily activities, fostering understanding and self-discovery among students.

St Benedict School has a rich history of community involvement and commitment to academic excellence. It is a place where learners can blossom and reach their full potential, prepared for the challenges of the modern world. So, step inside St Benedict’s School and experience the vibrant tapestry of a school that embodies both tradition and progress.
