In 1992, a divine call echoed in the heart of Taylor Cox Jr., urging him to establish a ministry. This ministry would become the Living the Word Christian Ministries. It was a call to create a community that truly lived the Word of God, not just spoke it. The Living the Word Christian Ministries, initially taking root as humble Bible studies in a Ypsilanti home, soon blossomed and moved to Detroit. The ministry found a temporary haven in the Plaza Hotel in Southfield in early 1993. Later that year, they moved to a rented space on John Lodge Service Drive. Living the Word Christian Ministries officially came into existence on November 6, 1994. With 22 devoted members, the church purchased a building on Hubbell Street, just south of Eight Mile. Pastor Cox, ordained and installed as senior pastor, led the congregation through remarkable growth. Within four years, the church paid off its 10-year mortgage. They even constructed a new sanctuary, entirely funded by the congregation. Living the Word Christian Ministries didn’t just focus on spiritual growth. They actively reached out to the community, providing food, clothing, shelter, and transportation to those in need. The church nurtured new leaders, ordaining pastors, evangelists, and teachers. In 2007, guided by another divine message, Living the Word Christian Ministries left Detroit. They sold their building and temporarily shared space with Peace Lutheran Church in Southfield. During this time, their mission expanded beyond national borders, supporting missionary work in India, Japan, and Africa. Their global outreach continued, extending to Cairo, Egypt, the Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua. Living the Word Christian Ministries found its current home in Hazel Park in 2009. Under the leadership of Pastor Noel Willis, installed as senior pastor in 2016, the ministry continues to thrive. They’ve expanded their online presence and are particularly attracting young adults. Today, Living the Word Christian Ministries emphasizes helping believers discover and fulfill their God-given purpose.
