“They say even the bravest can fall in the face of war.”
Here at the Lieut Greory Wyatt Memorial, we remember one such soldier. The Lieut Greory Wyatt Memorial stands as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made during the South African War. The memorial, once part of the Wyatt Military/Ordinance Road Cemetery, honours the memory of Lieut Greory Wyatt and countless others who perished in the conflict. The original cemetery, like many others of its time, fell into disrepair. Many of the cast iron grave markers were lost to time and vandalism.
However, thanks to the efforts of dedicated organizations, the site underwent extensive renovations. New granite memorials, inscribed with the names of the fallen, replaced the lost markers. The Lieut Greory Wyatt Memorial stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of these brave souls. Their stories, though silenced by time, are etched in stone, ensuring that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
