Have you ever peered into an underwater world teeming with life? Welcome to the Roundhouse Aquarium right here on the Manhattan Beach Pier. This isn’t just any aquarium. It’s a testament to the dedication of Oceanographic Teaching Stations Inc a nonprofit organization committed to ocean education. For over forty years OTS has been connecting people to the ocean. They started in a dilapidated building at the end of this very pier. Now look around you at this revitalized facility. A $4 million project transformed this space. The Harrison Greenberg Foundation spearheaded the effort.

The Roundhouse Aquarium isn’t just about pretty fish. It’s a bustling hub of marine life education. Over 300000 visitors a year explore its exhibits. More than 100 marine animals from Southern California waters call this place home. Many are native to the Santa Monica Bay. You’ll see moon jellies graceful sharks and even an octopus or two. Don’t miss the touch tank with sea stars sea cucumbers and other fascinating creatures.

Did you know the Roundhouse Aquarium was once torn down and rebuilt? In 1991 the original building was demolished for renovations. The animals were temporarily relocated. The aquarium reopened a year later with new exhibits including the popular touch tank and a shark tank. The aquarium continues to improve. It received funding for an outreach van to expand educational programs.

The Roundhouse Aquarium is free to visit. Donations are suggested to support its operations and its mission. Consider donating to ensure that this wonderful resource remains accessible to all. The aquarium prides itself on being family oriented. It’s a great place for kids of all ages.

Remember to treat all the animals with respect. Do not tap or bang on the tanks or pick up any animals. If the touch tank is open touch the animals gently with one finger. Follow any directions from the staff and volunteers. Let’s all enjoy this unique experience together. Let’s protect our oceans and learn more about our amazing marine life. Enjoy your visit to the Roundhouse Aquarium.
