In 1948, a dream began to take shape in Floral Park. This dream would eventually become Our Lady of the Snows Church. The parish initially lacked a dedicated building. They held services in a church auditorium. Years passed, and Msgr. Raymond Chappetto, alongside Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, transformed this dream into reality. Our Lady of the Snows Church opened its doors in a brand-new building in June 2008. The official dedication by Bishop DiMarzio followed on August 5th, 2008. This new building boasts a spacious sanctuary. It houses cherished artifacts from the former church, including a crucifix and a statue of the Blessed Mother. The church also acquired beautiful stained-glass windows. These windows once graced the Chapel of Our Lady of the Skies at JFK Airport. Before the current church, the parish used a pre-fabricated chapel, erected in 1949. This chapel stood on the site where the first mass was held in an open field in 1948. Even earlier, services took place in unconventional locations. These included the back of a candy store and a donated apartment. Our Lady of the Snows has always been a place for those seeking a closer connection with their faith. The parish proudly serves a diverse community, embracing various nationalities, races, and cultures. The church continues its mission of service. A recent example is a blood drive that collected an impressive 46 pints of blood. Our Lady of the Snows has a long and rich history. From humble beginnings in an open field to the grandeur of its current building, it continues to be a beacon of faith and community in Floral Park.
