From a small seed, a mighty tree grows. This saying perfectly embodies the spirit of Takatsuki City Tomita Elementary School. Established in 1873, Takatsuki City Tomita Elementary School, affectionately known as “Ton-Sho,” has witnessed over a century of growth and change. It started as the 9th District’s 3rd subdivision’s 1st Elementary School. Imagine children in traditional attire learning their ABCs in a simple wooden classroom. Over time, it evolved. Its name shifted, reflecting the changing administrative landscape. It became Shima-no-kami District’s 3rd, then 4th Children’s District Tomita Elementary. Later, it transitioned to Mishima District Tomita Village Tomita Elementary. With each name change, Tomita Elementary School absorbed the spirit of the times, growing and adapting to the needs of its community. In 1941, it became Mishima District Tomita National School. After World War II, it reverted to Mishima District Tomita Village Elementary before finally becoming Takatsuki City Tomita Elementary School in 1956. The school song, composed in 1950, embodies the school’s spirit. In 1958, the school pool was completed. A nurturing class was added in 1962. A gymnasium followed in 1969. Throughout its history, Takatsuki City Tomita Elementary School played a key role in the community. Even contributing to the establishment of two new schools: Takatsuki City Yanagawa Elementary in 1968 and Takatsuki City Akadaisho Elementary in 1973. Today, students living in Showa-dai and Tomita districts attend this school. Most graduates continue their education at Takatsuki City Fourth Junior High School. Located a short walk from both Hankyu Kyoto Line’s Tomita Station and JR Kyoto Line’s Settsu-Tomita Station, Tomita Elementary School remains a vibrant hub. It continues its legacy of nurturing young minds.
