Seongnam Dong Elementary School first opened its doors on March 1, 1978. However its establishment was approved on December 30, 1977. At that time it was known as Seongnam Dong National School.

In its early years, Seongnam Dong Elementary School also ran a kindergarten. The kindergarten opened on March 5, 1981. It had one class. The name of the school changed on March 1, 1996. It was then renamed Seongnam Dong Elementary School.

Seongnam Dong Elementary School has a rich history of graduations. The 17th graduation ceremony was held on February 15, 2000. 144 students graduated that day. Kim Kyung-sook became principal on March 1, 2000.

In 2001, Seongnam Dong Elementary School had 39 classes. This included 1752 students. The attached kindergarten had two classes. By February 21, 2002 the 19th graduation saw 247 students graduate. The school maintained 39 classes in March 2002. The kindergarten kept its two classes. Kim Jung-ae became the 8th principal on September 1, 2002.

The 20th graduation ceremony occurred on February 17, 2003. 252 students graduated. March 5, 2003 saw 37 classes formed. The kindergarten still had two classes. The student population was 1610.

February 14, 2004 marked the 21st graduation. 242 students graduated. On March 2, 2004 Seongnam Dong Elementary School consisted of 37 classes. The affiliated kindergarten maintained its two classes. There were 1542 students.

The 22nd graduation took place on February 18, 2005. A total of 312 students graduated. Park Nam-ryul became the 9th principal on March 1, 2005. The school had 36 classes with 1414 students.

By February 10, 2006 the 23rd graduation was held. 229 students graduated. On March 1, 2006 there were 34 classes with 1131 students. The 24th graduation happened on February 14, 2007. 236 students graduated. Cho Chang-hyun became the 10th principal on March 1, 2007.

The 25th graduation occurred on February 19, 2008. 221 students graduated. March 1, 2008 saw 35 classes formed. There were 1288 students. On February 13, 2009 the 26th graduation took place. 224 students graduated. March 1, 2009 saw 31 general classes and one special class. The total student body was 1051. Yoon Hye-shik became the 11th principal on September 1, 2009.

In 2010, Seongnam Dong Elementary School had 31 general classes and one special class. The total number of students was 984. The Haetsal Hall opened on November 11, 2010.

The 28th graduation was on February 11, 2011. 182 students graduated. March 1, 2011 saw 29 general classes and one special class. The attached kindergarten had two classes. The total student population was 906.

The 29th graduation was held on February 15, 2012. The cumulative number of graduates reached 10662. March 1, 2012 saw 28 general classes and two special classes. The kindergarten had two classes. The total student population was 865. Park Seok-eun became the 12th principal on September 1, 2012.

February 15, 2013 marked the 30th graduation. The cumulative number of graduates reached 10840. In 2013, there were 27 elementary classes, two kindergarten classes and two special classes.

As of March 2, 2014 Seongnam Dong Elementary School comprised 25 elementary classes. There were also two kindergarten classes and two special classes.

Seongnam Dong Elementary School continues its mission today. It strives to provide quality education to the children of Seongnam. It prepares them for a bright future.
