The Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium Babelsberg wasn’t always what it is today. In 1991 two separate schools combined to form the Gesamtschule Babelsberg. Later in 1999 it became the Goethe-Gesamtschule. Finally in 2010 the school split again. The Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium Babelsberg was born in 2012. The last Gesamtschuljahrgang left in 2014. It’s a story of change and continuity.
Today the Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium Babelsberg thrives. Around 500 students attend classes. 42 teachers and trainee teachers guide them. The school boasts modern facilities. Smartboards and laptops are common. The schoolyard is beautiful. Students designed it. There’s even a separate multi-purpose building. This building offers a cafeteria and midday meals. The school works closely with a school association and alumni.
The school’s name honors Bertha von Suttner. She was an Austrian writer and pacifist. The Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium Babelsberg is more than just a building. It is a vibrant community. It combines a century-old tradition with modern thinking.
