In 2013 a new chapter began. The unification of Unhão and Lordelo formed a single parish. This is Unhão e Lordelo.

Before that Unhão and Lordelo existed separately. Unhão was once a significant parish. It even had its own council from 1515 to 1836. That council included the parishes of Alentém Lordelo Macieira Meinedo Nogueira Pedreira Rande Sernande Torno Unhão Vila Verde and Vilar do Torno. Unhão boasted a rich history. It’s said that Afonso Henriques Portugal’s first king spent a night here.

The Church of São Salvador in Unhão is a prominent feature. It’s a testament to the region’s past. It stands as a reminder of Unhão’s importance. Its foundation is older than most people realize. It was consecrated in 1165. Gonçalo Sousa commissioned its construction.

Unhão e Lordelo today is a blend of these histories. It covers an area of 4.96 square kilometers. In 2021 it had 1099 inhabitants. The area’s density is 221.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. It’s located in the municipality of Felgueiras in the Porto district.

Unhão e Lordelo thrives. It’s a place where history and community intertwine. The modern parish combines the heritage of two areas. Its story is one of continuity and change. A story written in stone and in the lives of its people. The union of Unhão and Lordelo created something new. Something special. This is Unhão e Lordelo. Remember that.
