Whitehill Secondary School has been shaping young minds since 1891. It originally opened as Whitehill Senior Secondary School on Whitehill Street. A grand red sandstone building housed the school in those early days. The school has a rich history. It played a vital role in educating generations of Glaswegians. Whitehill Secondary School boasts an impressive alumni list, filled with household names. Think Lulu, the iconic Scottish singer, and Ford Kiernan, the comedic genius behind Still Game. Then there’s Bill Paterson, the acclaimed actor and writer, and Alasdair Gray, the celebrated artist and author. Even a world-renowned virologist, June Almeida, once walked these halls. Whitehill Secondary School also nurtured the talents of Rikki Fulton, a beloved actor and comedian. And who could forget Dorothy Paul, another comedic force to emerge from this very institution? In 1977, Whitehill Secondary School transitioned to its current location on Onslow Drive. Interestingly, this land once belonged to Golfhill Cricket Club. The old building on Whitehill Street met its end with demolition. As part of Glasgow City Council’s Project 2002, the new building received a much-needed refurbishment. This ensured that Whitehill Secondary School remained a modern and vibrant learning environment. Today, Whitehill Secondary School continues its legacy of education as a comprehensive school.
