Pastor Dan Denissen’s farmhouse. That’s where it all started. Thirty people. September 7 1980. A small gathering of prayer and Bible study. This humble beginning grew into the Abundant Life Cathedral we see before us today.
The Abundant Life Cathedral wasn’t built overnight. It began as a simple Bible study group. Their faith and dedication led them to establish a church. Pastor Dan Denissen and his family answered the call to serve. They became the heart of this burgeoning community.
Rapid growth forced several moves. First to the Roberts Park building. Then to the River Falls High School auditorium. The congregation quickly outgrew each location. This constant expansion speaks volumes about the power of their shared belief. A testament to the strength of their community.
In 1982 a significant step was taken. The church founded Good Shepherd Christian Academy. A school dedicated to providing Christian education. While it later merged with Trinity Academy the academy remains part of their story. A testament to their commitment to faith and community.
By October 1986 the first phase of the Abundant Life Church building was complete. This marked a significant milestone in their journey. A physical manifestation of their spiritual growth. Easter 1991 brought another exciting development. A new sanctuary was opened. This 400-seat sanctuary was a breathtaking achievement for the ever-growing congregation. The same year Abundant Life Christian Learning Center was founded.
The leadership of Abundant Life Cathedral changed over the years. Pastor Kevin Humphrey became Senior Pastor in 1992. He continued the work laid by Pastor Dan Denissen. He guided the church into its next chapter of growth and service. The church also supported missionaries Rev Roger and Myrna Eilers. They established a sister church in Minsk Belarus. Their mission work highlights the global reach of the Abundant Life Cathedral’s impact.
Today as we stand before Abundant Life Cathedral we witness the culmination of decades of faith determination and community. A journey from a farmhouse to this impressive structure. This building stands as a beacon of faith. It is a testament to the enduring power of faith community and the unwavering spirit of its members. It’s a place where countless lives have been touched and transformed. More importantly it’s a place where faith continues to flourish.
