“A poignant reminder, isn’t it?” The Distacco Installation stands before us, a stark yet moving testament to a time we can never forget. Created by artists Giulia Mainardi and Josephin Capozzi, the Distacco Installation, meaning “detachment” in Italian, isn’t about celebrating grandeur. It’s about remembering a shared experience. The COVID-19 pandemic. The metal bars, stark and unforgiving, represent the forced separation we endured, the distance between loved ones, the isolation that became a shared reality. Unveiled in June 2022, it serves as a somber reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, our ability to endure, to grieve, and ultimately, to heal. It encourages us to reflect on a period that irrevocably changed our world, urging us to remember the lives lost and the lessons learned.
