“Look at their necks!” a child exclaimed, their voice filled with awe. They were mesmerized by the Giraffes at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, fondly known locally as “Sở Thú”, is no stranger to such exclamations of wonder. Established in 1869, it stands as one of the world’s oldest continuously operating zoos. It’s a testament to the captivating nature of animals like the majestic Giraffes. The Giraffes at the Saigon Zoo hold a special place. In 2004, the zoo imported a breeding pair from Thailand for a considerable sum, hoping to introduce these gentle giants to Vietnam. This endeavor proved successful in 2009 with the arrival of the first baby giraffe born on Vietnamese soil. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of a new generation of Giraffes at the Saigon Zoo. Today, these graceful creatures continue to enchant visitors, their long necks stretching towards the sky, reminding everyone of the incredible diversity of the animal kingdom. Their presence at the Saigon Zoo is a testament to the zoo’s dedication to conservation and education.
