Let’s step back to the late 19th century. The Sisters of the Rosary began their work in Jerusalem. Specifically, the order was founded in 1880. They established a convent and school. The Sisters of the Rosary Convent and Catholic School began in 1887. The construction took place over 50 years.
The St. Rosary Monastary quickly became a center for education. It also became a sanctuary for orphaned girls. The Jerusalem Foundation supported the orphanage. They provided equipment for the girls’ care. The Order of the Sisters of the Rosary operates several other institutions. These include a school in Beit Hanina and a clinic in the Old City. They also run a boys’ orphanage in Ein Kerem.
Today, the Rosary Sisters continue their work. They serve communities throughout the region. Their Generalate is located in Beit Hanina. Very Rev. Mother Sophie Hattar is the Superior General.
