“In the heart of Houston, a beacon of faith stands tall.” Grace Missionary Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of the community since its humble beginnings in 1984. It all started in the home of Reverend John Denton Murdock, Sr. on Segrest Drive. Imagine a small group of just 25 members, united by their shared belief. Reverend Murdock, installed as pastor by his own mentor, Reverend O.L. Hughes, led this nascent congregation. Grace Missionary Baptist Church quickly outgrew its initial space. The congregation moved to its first building at 4315 Shelby Circle. This marked a significant milestone in the church’s journey. The growing congregation necessitated further expansion. In 2002, a new building was constructed on the same property, a testament to the church’s flourishing community. Reverend Murdock guided the church for nearly three decades, until September 2013. He then chose Reverend Robert C. Jamerson, Sr. as his successor. Grace Missionary Baptist Church continues to serve as a place of worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth for its members.
