Journey with me back to 1985. Imagine the grand opening of Kansai University Library on the Senriyama Campus. This wasn’t the university’s first library. Their story began much earlier with the modest Fukushima Library in 1914. Kansai University Library stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to education and research. The current Kansai University Library, completed in April 1985, replaced several smaller libraries. It consolidated the university’s vast collection into one central hub. The library’s design prioritizes easy access to its impressive holdings. Upon entering Kansai University Library, you’ll find yourself on the first floor in the main service area. Here, the reference room houses around 65,700 reference books. Nearby, you’ll discover the periodical and newspaper area. This area contains about 4,530 Japanese and foreign titles. Ascending to the second floor reveals an open stack reading room with 214,000 books. The second floor also houses an audio-visual room and reading rooms for small groups. The third floor offers various spaces for study and research. Three general reading rooms provide ample space for individual study. There are also three special reading rooms, both large and small, designed for group study. This floor also holds rare book stack rooms and a multipurpose reading room. In 2016, the Kansai University Library’s collection numbered an astounding 2,260,000 volumes. It also boasted access to 21,000 electronic journals. The library stands as a central hub for learning and research. It supports the educational pursuits of Kansai University students and faculty.
