“What was once a symbol of Dortmund’s booming metalworking industry is now View Phoenix-West. It’s more than just a viewpoint. It’s a testament to transformation.

Imagine this place in the late 19th century. The area was thriving with pig iron manufacturing. Over 1,000 workers labored around the furnaces. Technology constantly improved.

But the 20th century brought decline. Production ceased in 1998. Yet, like the mythical phoenix, this area rose again in the 21st century.

Now, look up at the Phoenix Skywalk. It wraps around the remnants of the Phoenix West Blast Furnace. This plant started in 1852. It churned out vast amounts of pig iron for over a century. Dare to climb the Skywalk. It takes you up to 210 feet. From here, the views of the neighborhood and parkland are amazing.

As Phaskal from Indonesia once said, historical relics are always interesting. He visited Phoenix-West with his colleagues and experienced the skywalk tour. He walked on a large tube 40 meters above the ground. He was able to see the surviving buildings of the industry. The tour guide shared the history of Phoenix-West. Phaskal also enjoyed the beautiful view of Dortmund. He was happy and proud despite his fear of heights.

Notice the Hoesch Gasometer. It still stands tall. It reminds us of Dortmund’s industrial past. The Phoenixhalle is nearby. This renovated industrial building is now a trendy concert space called “Phoenix des Lumières”. It hosts immersive digital exhibitions.

This district has undergone a complete transformation. It now features modern breweries and art galleries. There are also peaceful parks. The blast furnaces and Hoesch gasometer still bear witness to Dortmund’s industrial history.

View Phoenix-West is not just a place to see. It is a reminder that even from ashes, something new and exciting can emerge.
