Did you know that Marché Central is one of Canada’s largest shopping centers? It boasts over one million square feet and welcomes about 10 million visitors annually.

Marché Central began in 1950. Montreal farmers left the Bonsecours Market because it was too small. It was also not easily accessible anymore.

In 1992, the Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd of Quebec invested heavily in buying Marché Central. Fraudsters convinced the sisters to guarantee two loans totaling 61 million dollars for the construction project.

When the embezzlement was discovered, the banks recalled the loans. The nuns had to repay them. They filed a protest to avoid financial disaster. The sisters negotiated all claims. They repurchased the bankrupt company. They finished the construction of Marché Central themselves. They later sold Marché Central for a profit. The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation bought it for 302 million dollars.

Marché Central has a prime location. It is surrounded by Highway 15 and Autoroute 40. It’s hard to miss with many signs indicating you’re there.

Marché Central is home to 60 tenants. These include brand outlets like Aldo and Nike. You can find top brands at affordable prices here.

Walmart Canada is expanding at Marché Central. A new state-of-the-art Walmart Supercentre will open with sustainable features like a green roof.

QuadReal Property Group is committed to environmental responsibility. Marché Central has been certified BOMA BEST for environmental performance. The center saves water and energy. It reduces pesticides. It promotes reusable bags. It also focuses on recycling and composting.

Marché Central sponsors neighborhood sporting events. It organizes food drives for La Corbeille Bordeaux-Cartierville. This helps the disadvantaged during the holidays. Since 2017, Marché Central has supported BUNKR. It is a pop-up village for businesses and artists.
