Question What if every paw and meow had a safe haven? Here at the Municipal Animal Shelter, that’s precisely the goal.
The Municipal Animal Shelter, officially named CROA, has been in operation since April 2020. It is a modern facility designed for animal care. This center replaced the old Rua de São Dinis kennel in Carvalhido. The Municipal Animal Shelter aims to promote animal welfare and facilitate adoptions.
CROA marks a significant step for public health. It aligns with the Municipal Plan for the Control and Welfare of Animal Populations of Dogs and Cats from 2015. The shelter ensures proper housing and care for animals.
The Municipal Animal Shelter has more than doubled its capacity. It now houses 220 animals compared to the previous 94. CROA boasts a surgical unit for sterilizing cats and dogs. It also features a separate infirmary for clinical care. Exercise and socialization areas allow animals to interact. There is even an area for grooming and hygiene.
These facilities enable collaboration with the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary Medicine. This collaboration supports housing animals in quarantine from other countries.
The Municipal Animal Shelter ensures clear separation between adoption and official collection services. This separation enhances service quality. It also promotes responsible pet adoptions.
