The monument features a four-meter bronze composition on a granite pedestal. It depicts a mother with a child. A soldier and a worker stand beside them. These figures represent all who defended the city. Evgeny Nikitich Rotanov created the monument. He was a renowned sculptor from Saint Petersburg.

The gold star at the top is stainless steel. It measures 1.8 meters.
The Leningrad Hero City Obelisk commemorates the Red Army’s victory. It marked the fortieth anniversary of the victory in the German-Soviet War. Vladimir Lukyanov and A. I. Alymov designed the monument.
