This park holds secrets. Secrets whispered on the wind through the trees. Secrets etched in bronze. Welcome to Woodruff Park in the heart of Atlanta.

Woodruff Park isn’t just a green space. It’s a living testament to Atlanta’s resilience. It began as a simple four-acre plot. Purchased anonymously in 1971 it opened as Central City Park in 1973. The donor Robert W Woodruff later revealed his generosity. The park was renamed in his honor in 1985.

Imagine the bustling activity in the 1980s. Downtown Atlanta was booming. Woodruff Park became a lunchtime haven for office workers. Nearby Georgia State University students flocked here too. It was a vibrant community hub. Then came a major makeover in 1994. A $5 million investment prepared the park for the Centennial Olympic Games.

Look closely. There is a magnificent bronze sculpture. Atlanta from the Ashes. It’s a phoenix. A symbol of the city’s rebirth after the Civil War. It’s a powerful reminder of Atlanta’s spirit. This incredible artwork was a gift. The Rich Foundation donated it for Rich’s Department Store’s centennial. Originally located near the first Rich’s store it found a new home in Woodruff Park in 1995.

The International Peace Fountain is a striking feature. Completed in 1995 it’s a tranquil centerpiece. A spot for reflection in the midst of the city’s energy. But Woodruff Park’s story isn’t just about beauty. It’s about voices. It has been a stage for protests and rallies for decades. A place where citizens have made their voices heard.

Today Woodruff Park continues to evolve. It offers free Wi-Fi. It hosts events and programs. It is a dynamic place constantly adapting to the needs of the city. So whether you are a local or a visitor take a moment to experience this special place. Let the history resonate with you. Woodruff Park is more than a park. It’s a story. It’s Atlanta’s story.
