“Emanuela Loi,” a name that echoes with courage and sacrifice. Parco Emanuela Loi stands as a tribute. It honors a woman who dedicated her life to serving her country. This park is more than just a green space. It is a living memorial.

Emanuela Loi was born in Sestu in October 1967. She joined the State Police in 1989 after earning her master’s degree. She excelled and became a sharpshooter. Loi was assigned to Palermo. She supervised prisoners in semi-freedom.

After the Capaci massacre, Loi joined magistrate Paolo Borsellino’s escort in June 1992. Just a month later on July 19, 1992, tragedy struck. A bomb took her life along with Borsellino and her colleagues. The Via D’Amelio massacre shook Italy.

The Municipality 7 decided to name a small square after Emanuela Loi. This happened on the anniversary of Borsellino’s death. The square, now Parco Emanuela Loi, is between via Antonio Mosca and via Edgardo Moltoni. It is also near Arturo Carlo Jemolo.

The park’s location is significant. It serves as a daily reminder of Loi’s sacrifice. It also honors all victims of the mafia. Milan already has a garden dedicated to judges Falcone and Borsellino. This park expands the recognition to those who stood beside them.

Filippo Del Corno, Councilor for Culture, emphasized the importance of keeping the memory of victims alive. He stated that institutions have a duty to transmit values of legality and justice. The park symbolizes the commitment to spread a culture of respect. It also promotes gender equality in public spaces.

Parco Emanuela Loi is not the only place named in her honor. In Arezzo, a street also bears her name. A plaque commemorates her service. Her niece, also a police officer, unveiled it. The niece carries Emanuela Loi’s name.

The park provides a space for reflection. It is a place for young people to learn about Loi’s bravery. It reminds them of the importance of standing against illegality. It is a place where the community can gather. They can remember the sacrifices made for justice.

As you wander through Parco Emanuela Loi, consider the weight of its name. Think about the young woman who stood for what was right. Remember Emanuela Loi. Honor her memory by living a life dedicated to justice and equality.
