In the heart of Houston, Texas, stands the Ark of Restitution Baptist Church. Its unassuming exterior belies a rich history and a vibrant community. The Ark of Restitution Baptist Church wasn’t always located here. It was first established in 1985 with a mere seven members. They were led by Pastor Leon Blunt and later by Pastor Vern Cooper. The church initially resided at 4013 Shelby Circle. In 1988, they purchased land at Brandon and Holmes Road with dreams of a new sanctuary. However, fate led them to their current location on Selinsky Road. They moved here in May 1989, initially leasing the facilities. By 1991, they secured a 10-year mortgage, paying it off in an impressive eight years. The Ark of Restitution Baptist Church has always been driven by a vision of growth – spiritual, financial, and economic. This vision, spearheaded by Pastor Cooper in 2000, led to a remarkable building fund drive. They achieved their goal of raising $50,000 in just eight months, a testament to the dedication of the church community. Today, the Ark of Restitution Baptist Church is not just a place of worship. It’s a beacon of hope for the surrounding community, actively working to empower its residents through Christian service, love, and leadership.
