Founded in 1980 the church began humbly. Twenty people gathered for the first service. The area was filled with farms and orchards. By the mid-1980s a large housing complex had sprung up around Myungsung Presbyterian Church. The church grew rapidly. In 1989 it was rebuilt on its current site. Its size is impressive almost 8754 square meters.
Myungsung Presbyterian Church’s global impact is undeniable. In 2004 it opened a Christian Medical Center in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. This hospital serves the underserved local population. The church also supports missionaries in 56 nations. This expansive global mission is a testament to its commitment. It supports various ministries including churches schools hospitals and community centers worldwide.
The church has faced challenges. A controversy surrounded the succession of Pastor Kim Sam Whan. His son Rev Kim Ha Na was appointed. This led to much opposition within the church and broader community. The appointment was initially deemed invalid. However the decision was reversed. Rev Kim Ha Na eventually took the leadership in 2021. The Korean Supreme Court eventually settled the matter in March 2023.

This ministry has attracted members for over 35 years. Four services start daily at 5:00 AM. This demonstrates the congregation’s devotion.
