Founded in October 1995 in the home of Pastor Billy G and Doretha Miller Captives Free Christian Center stands as a testament to faith and community. Its name inspired by Luke 4:18 reflects its mission to proclaim liberty and heal broken hearts. Brother Val Day suggested the name during Pastor Miller’s prison ministry. The addition of “Christian Center” ensures everyone feels welcome. Early on they met in various locations a storefront a beauty salon even Most High C.O.G.I.C. By November 1996 they purchased their current building at 1340 Lawry Avenue. Amazingly they paid off both buildings in under six years. Pastor Miller a Las Vegas resident worked at TIMET Titanium Metals for 39 years before becoming the full-time pastor in 2005. His ministry started in 1986 at Victory Baptist Church encompassing prison ministry hospital chaplaincy and leadership roles. Doretha Miller’s dedication to teaching children’s Bible study created a legacy continuing today through Sunday School and Children’s Church. Pastor Miller actively participated in district and national Christian education events further contributing to the teaching and discipleship within the broader community. Captives Free Christian Center offers programs for all ages including Sunday School a Teen Class Vacation Bible School and Wednesday Night Bible Study. These programs foster spiritual growth and community engagement. The church has flourished under the Millers’ leadership growing significantly in membership and spiritual impact.
