Madrid’s administrative divisions affected Prosperidad. From 1898 to 1955, it was part of Buenavista. In 1955, it joined Chamartín. In 1987, the neighborhood was split. The northern part became Garden City. Prosperidad kept its name for the southern area.
The early 20th century saw growth. Urbanization and infrastructure improved. New housing appeared. Garden colonies were built. These benefited from cheap housing laws. Examples include Colonia Primo de Rivera and Colonia Prosperidad. These colonies had architectural styles. They featured houses grouped in blocks. Townhouses in rows were also common.
After the 1940s, immigration increased. Prosperidad’s population grew. New residential buildings were constructed. However, older houses were demolished. Modern buildings replaced them. This caused a loss of historical architecture.
Today, Prosperidad has a large population. As of 2020, it had 37,018 residents. The area is about 1.04 square kilometers. That is about 92,000 people per square kilometer.
