Seoul Goil Elementary School first opened its doors on May 6, 1984. At that time, it was named Seoul Goil National School. 783 students transferred from Gucheon National School to begin their education here.

In July 1985, the school installed VTR equipment in all 51 classrooms. This was an early investment in technology.

The school’s facilities continued to improve. Gas heating was installed in all classrooms in October 1995. A dining facility was completed in November 1995.

An important change happened in March 1996. The school’s name changed to Seoul Goil Elementary School.

More technology arrived in 1997. The school acquired 16 TVs and two computers with printers. 557 sets of student desks and chairs were purchased, improving the learning environment. By August 1997, the school had 41 additional computers. These were 586 models.

In January 2006, the science lab was modernized. This offered students a better space to explore science.

A second science lab was built in June 2008. Air conditioning was also installed in the classrooms. The Goil Dollbom Classroom opened in February 2010. A counseling room was established in March 2012. In November 2012, the dining hall was renovated. Facilities for washing hands were installed in December 2012.

The Goil Gymnastics Team was founded in December 2015. In February 2016, the school held its 32nd graduation ceremony. A total of 12,412 students had graduated by then. As of March 2016, the school had 32 classes. This included two special education classes. The school also began operating a leading school sports club.

The 33rd graduation ceremony took place in February 2017. By then, the total number of graduates was 12,535. As of March 2017, the school had 16 classes. This included one special education class.

In February 2018, the 34th graduation ceremony was held. The total number of graduates reached 12,595. The school temporarily closed in March 2018. This was due to the reconstruction of the Goodeok Jugong Apartment.

Seoul Goil Elementary School reopened in September 2019. A kindergarten was established at the same time. Jo Young-beom became the 11th principal. As of September 2019, there were ten classes including two special education classes. Indoor fine dust traffic lights were installed in October 2019. In November 2019, new supplies were provided for 43 classrooms. The school added dining tables in the student dining hall. This increased the seating to 600 seats.

In February 2020, CCTV cameras were installed in several locations. The 35th graduation ceremony was held. The total number of graduates was 12,598. Science labs, music rooms, and an English room were upgraded. 32 general classrooms received computers and TVs. In April 2020, planters were installed with support from Gangdong-gu Office. Misting fans were installed in the student dining hall in May 2020. Thermal imaging cameras were installed in May 2020. A fence was completed next to the Jaie Apartment in June 2020.

As of March 2020, the school had 38 classes. This included one special education class. The kindergarten had four classes including one for special education. As of March 2022, the school had a total of 66 classes.

The school’s symbols are the forsythia flower and the Zelkova tree. These represent beauty and strength. They reflect the values that the school instills in its students.
