Envision Bubbiano. It is a small village southwest of Milan. Bubbiano’s story is about agriculture and water.

Let’s explore Bubbiano. This comune has just under 2,500 residents. Its history dates back centuries.

Bubbiano first appeared in records in 1160. The village was mentioned in a land exchange document. Morimondo Abbey owned the land then. The abbey was a feudal lord of nearby villages. Bubbiano developed as an independent agricultural community. Consuls governed it from the 12th century.

The village suffered attacks. Frederick Barbarossa and his grandson raided it. This happened during conflicts with the Lombard League. Bubbiano followed the course of Italian history after that.

Bubbiano’s coat of arms tells a story. It represents the area’s features and economy. Two blue stripes symbolize the Ticinello and Naviglio di Bereguardo rivers. These rivers run through the comune. A bundle of golden wheat represents agriculture. This highlights the area’s farming economy. The village administrators wanted to show these two elements.

The Parish Church of Sant’Ambrogio stands in Bubbiano. It was built in the 16th century. The church has been renovated many times. The latest renovation was in the mid-20th century. These changes reflect the evolving needs of the community.

The municipality’s territory spans 2.9 square kilometers. Bubbiano also includes part of the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. This agricultural park is south of Milan.

Bubbiano has seen changes in population. It had 300 residents in 1751. By 1805, it grew to 420. It was annexed to Calvignasco in 1809. Then, it was annexed to Casorate in 1811. In 1853, the population was 529. Today, it is almost 2,500.

Bubbiano remains linked to its land. It is a place where agriculture shapes life. The waterways define its borders. Bubbiano offers a glimpse into Lombardy’s rural past. It shows us a community that has endured. It adapted through centuries of change.
