Ever wondered what secrets lie within the walls of the Museum of Science? This isn’t just any science museum. It’s a place where history breathes life into exhibits.

The Museum of Science in Boston a beacon of scientific exploration has a rich past. It began humbly in 1830 as the Boston Society of Natural History. Seven men gathered sharing a passion for science. They laid the foundation for what would become a world-renowned institution.

For decades the museum thrived in various locations. One such home was in the Back Bay near the original MIT building. Both structures were designed by William G. Preston. Sadly the MIT building is gone but the museum’s original building still stands. It is now a home furnishings showcase.

The Museum of Science stands where it does today thanks to a 99-year lease. This cost the museum only $1 a year. Can you believe that? The museum moved to its current location in Science Park in 1951. It’s arguably the first all-encompassing science museum in the nation. Spooky a great horned owl lived to be 38 years old. He was a beloved mascot. Some of his taxidermied friends remain on display.

Today the Museum of Science boasts over 700 interactive exhibits. There are daily live presentations. Visitors can also experience film showings at the Charles Hayden Planetarium. The Mugar Omni Theater is a treat as it’s New England’s only domed IMAX theater. There’s something for everyone here. From the world’s largest air-insulated Van de Graaff generator to optical illusions and dinosaur exhibits. The museum holds a special place in many hearts. It has hosted exhibits like Ramses II’s treasures and even the Lord of the Rings exhibition.

The Museum of Science isn’t just a place to learn it’s a living testament to scientific curiosity. It’s a place where past meets present and where wonder never ceases. Visit the Museum of Science. Let your curiosity soar. You won’t regret it.
