Thủy Thể District merged with Bến Lức District forming Bến Tre District. Hương Thọ Phú became part of Bến Tre. Another shift occurred on January 14 1983. A decision moved Hương Thọ Phú from Bến Tre District into Tân An. It was a significant step towards its current status.
March 24 1994 brought further changes. The government adjusted Hương Thọ Phú’s boundaries. A part was set aside to create Ward 5. This left Hương Thọ Phú with 998.89 hectares of land and 7399 residents. It was a time of both growth and division.
Finally on August 24 2009 Tân An officially became a city. Xã Hương Thọ Phú now belongs to Tân An City. Its location today reflects a long and complex history. The area’s boundaries were defined by its neighboring areas. To the east lies Ward 5. To the west and north is Thủy Thể District. The southern border is marked by the Vàm Cỏ Tây River. This river is shared with Ward 1 Ward 6 and Lợi Bình Nhơn Commune.
