This new church became a focal point for the growing Catholic community particularly for Polish workers who migrated to Dortmund during industrialization.

The church’s rich interior further enriches its history. Its stained glass windows created by artists like Nikolaus Bette and Wilhelm Buschulte tell vivid stories of saints. These include scenes from the lives of St Anthony of Padua St Francis of Assisi and Brother Jordan Mai. The altar boasts a beautiful carved retable from a Lippstadt workshop and neo-Gothic altarpieces from the dissolved Franciscan monastery in Osnabrück.

Even the church’s organ a Franz Breil instrument from 1969 has a story to tell. Subsequently renovated in 2018 this magnificent instrument continues to fill the church with inspiring music.

Brother Jordan Mai a significant figure in the Dortmund Franciscan community is also remembered here. His remains were transferred to the church in 1950 a testament to his enduring influence. The ongoing process for his beatification highlights the reverence he continues to inspire.
