It’s a national AAAA scenic spot. A whopping 18 square kilometers of grottoes, temples, and trails await. Fenghuangling Nature Park is a tapestry woven with nature’s splendor and the threads of China’s rich history. It’s about an hour and a half drive from the city center, a worthwhile journey for those seeking tranquility. Fenghuangling boasts a pristine environment. Think clear springs, lush forests, and unique rock formations. The park even has flowers blooming across three seasons. It’s no wonder it’s called the “lung of Beijing City.” Fenghuangling Nature Park offers three distinct touring routes. The north route is packed with scenic spots. You’ll find everything from ancient seacoast landforms to temples, pagodas, and caves. Don’t miss the “Tianti,” a stairway believed to lead to heaven, and the “Immortal’s Footprint,” imprinted on a stone table. Legend says an immortal kicked a falling rock to save playing children, leaving his mark behind. The middle route begins at Longquan Monastery, a Liao Dynasty marvel with a modern twist. Many of its monks are tech-savvy graduates from top universities like Peking and Tsinghua. They even have a robot monk named “Xian’er” spreading Buddhist teachings! Further on, you’ll encounter caves adorned with Buddhist figures and the largest cliff inscription in Beijing, proclaiming “Phoenix Mountain.” The south route at Fenghuangling Nature Park is a more natural path, less touched by human hands. It features a triangle of religious sites: Huangpu Courtyard, Guandi Temple, and Lvzu Cave. These locations blend Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian influences. And adding to the intrigue are unsolved mysteries, like the secrets of the Jingang Stone Pagoda and the Stone Buddha Sculptures from the Northern Wei Dynasty.
