The M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences was renamed on September 13, 2022. It was formerly known as the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The faculty was named in honor of Mr M. Kandiah Murugasu. He was crucial in establishing social welfare foundations in Malaysia. Mr. Kandiah created Malaysia’s First National Social Welfare Policy. This policy still guides the country’s social welfare activities.

The M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences also houses five research centers. These centers focus on Traditional Chinese Medicine. They also focus on non-communicable diseases and cancer research. Other centers study stem cells and communicable diseases. The Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Centre focuses on communicable diseases. These centers enhance the faculty’s research capabilities.
