From its inception, Alumnae Hall at John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School has been more than just bricks and mortar. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Hallahan Alumnae Association. This association, founded in 1901, the same year the first class graduated, has been instrumental in shaping Hallahan’s legacy. Alumnae Hall itself, also known as the Auditorium, stands as a proud symbol of their dedication and a physical embodiment of their contributions to the school. The Alumnae Association’s mission is twofold: social and financial. They aim to maintain the bonds of sisterhood forged at Hallahan, hosting events that reunite classmates and friends. But their commitment goes beyond social gatherings. Their financial mission is crucial, raising funds for scholarships and contributing to the school’s upkeep. Originally, funds were used for maintenance, including projects like Alumnae Hall and the distinctive tile work adorning the Hallahan Building walls. The association also played a key role in equipping the school’s labs. In the 1970s, recognizing the increasing financial burden of tuition, the Alumnae Association shifted their focus to scholarships. This commitment continues today, providing crucial financial assistance to students seeking a Catholic high school education. The Alumnae Association’s dedication extends beyond individual donations. In 1996, they officially incorporated as a non-profit fundraising association in Pennsylvania. This formal recognition, solidified further in 2016 with 501(c)(3) status, has expanded their fundraising capabilities, including access to matching gift programs. Alumnae Hall, therefore, represents more than just a space. It’s a tangible reminder of the generations of women who have walked the halls of Hallahan and continue to invest in its future.
