Opened on June 3, 2012, the Campbell Sports Center is at 505 West 218th Street. It quickly became a vital hub for Columbia’s outdoor sports programs. William V. Campbell ’62CC is the namesake for the Campbell Sports Center. He captained Columbia’s Ivy League champion football team in 1961.

Steven Holl Architects designed this award-winning facility. Steven Holl is a Columbia faculty member and Chris McVoy is his partner. The Campbell Sports Center’s angular design and aluminum facade reflect its surroundings. It mirrors the energy and dedication within.

The New York Times praised the Campbell Sports Center. They called it a building with both “brains and its brawn.” This reflects its purpose. The Campbell Sports Center supports athletic and academic excellence.

Inside, the five-story building spans 48,000 square feet. It houses administrative offices for various sports. Football, baseball, and tennis programs all call it home.

A state-of-the-art strength and conditioning center is within the Campbell Sports Center. It also features the Ruzika Classroom and Lecture Hall. This auditorium seats 175 people. The Milstein Pavilion is a banquet and event facility with a kitchen. Student-athlete lounges and conference rooms provide space for studying and teamwork.

The Campbell Sports Center’s design incorporates the concept of “points on the ground, lines in space.” This idea mirrors field play diagrams. It connects the building to the athletic fields. Terraces and external stairs offer views of the Baker Athletics Complex and Manhattan.

The Campbell Sports Center weight room is a highlight. It features 8,000 square feet of space. There are free weights and UCF half racks. Columbia-branded dumbbells are available for athletes. Coaches can oversee workouts from overhead views.

The Campbell Sports Center serves 11 Columbia intercollegiate sports teams. These include football, soccer, and rowing. The facility enhances training and teamwork.
