In the 1950s, the renowned soprano Maria Callas chose this very church to record some of her most iconic performances. Imagine the exquisite notes of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “I Puritani” resonating through this very space, the air thick with anticipation and the power of Callas’s voice. Constructed in the 5th century, the Chiesa di Sant’Eufemia stands as a testament to Milan’s rich religious heritage. It was founded by Bishop San Senatore, a key figure in the Council of Chalcedon, who, upon his return to Milan, brought back a relic of Saint Euphemia, to whom the church is dedicated. Over the centuries, the Chiesa di Sant’Eufemia underwent several renovations. The grand neo-Gothic interior we see today is largely the work of architect Enrico Terzaghi in 1870, who also added the neo-Romanesque façade.
