The Liantang Bridge is part of the Liantang Port. It is also known as Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point. This comprehensive land-based port facilitates interconnectivity between Hong Kong and Guangdong. It also connects Jiangxi and Fujian provinces.
Think of the Liantang Bridge as a key player in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It helps deepen connections. The governments of Hong Kong and Shenzhen recognized the need for this port. It eases pressure on other border crossings.
The Liantang Port project covers 17.7 hectares. Its construction area is 149,000 square meters. The port includes a people inspection section. There is also a cargo check section. A civil supporting section is present. Do not forget about the cross-boundary pedestrian bridge.
Originally, the Liantang Port was designed to handle 30,000 people. It was also meant for 17,850 vehicles daily. The opening hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The Liantang Port streamlines customs clearance. It integrates customs’ data with information collection. This ensures quick passage. Cargo trucks only stop once. They receive inspections from different departments.
AECOM played a crucial role in this project. They provided detailed design and construction supervision. The project included forming 23 hectares of land. They constructed an 11km long trunk road. 5.7km are road tunnels. 4.3km are viaducts.
The Lung Shan Tunnel is part of this project. It is the longest road tunnel in Hong Kong. AECOM reviewed the tunnel ventilation system. They ensured a safe egress path during emergencies.
A single Earth Pressure Balanced Tunnel Boring Machine was used. It constructed both northbound and southbound tubes. This was a first for Hong Kong. The TBM made a U-turn inside a huge cavern. It was a magnificent operation.
The Liantang Port project has won several awards. These include the Green Management Award. It also won the Safety Project Team Award. It received the CEDD Construction Site Safety Award too.
Liantang Port is innovative. It uses a double-inclined linear curved shape. This creates a unique facade. The design reflects personality and contemporary style.
CAPOL built a BIM platform in the planning stage. This allowed automated data flow. It also enabled statistical analysis. Visual design and 3D collaborative work were possible.
The cargo entrance facilities opened on August 26. Passenger facilities opened later due to the pandemic. The port is connected to the Eastern Corridor roadway. A new highway links the control point from Fanling Highway.
Three new bus routes connect the control point with various locations. It is also accessible to pedestrians and bicycles. Liantang Control Point is accessible via Shenzhen Metro Line 2. It’s near Liantang Checkpoint station’s exit A3.
