Lost amid Macau’s vibrant streets is Fengshan. But what exactly is Fengshan?

Fengshan, also known by its Chinese name 凤山, is a suburb within the city. This area is a subdistrict. Fengshan is a place called a ‘suburb’. It is under the administration of Zhuhai. Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city in China.

It is a place with the same name as a county in Guangxi, China. The county in Guangxi is called Fengshan County.

Let’s travel to Fengshan County in Guangxi, China. The county got its name from the mountain range. Its shape resembles a phoenix spreading its wings. Fengshan County is known for its karst landforms. These formations feature sinkholes and caves.

Fengshan County lies on the eastern fringe of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The area has a subtropical monsoon climate. The average yearly temperature is 20 degrees Celsius.

Fengshan County is rich in mineral resources. These include gold, pyrite, and copper.

Fengshan County is described as the kingdom of karst and the city of caves. There are many caves and underground rivers. Some caves have chambers of impressive size. The largest caves include Jiangzhou Underground Corridor and Mawangdong Cave.

The Jiangzhou Underground Corridor features curly crystals and stalactites. Mawangdong Cave has three layers and a karst sinkhole.

Jiangzhou Natural Bridge is a karst formation that connects two mountains. Yuanyang Springs consist of two springs. They have distinctive colors.

Fengshan’s beauty is created by towering peaks and low-lying depressions.

Interestingly, there was also a Qing dynasty general named Fengshan. He was assassinated in 1911. This Fengshan has no direct connection to our Fengshan suburb.

So, while walking through Fengshan in Macau, remember the tale of Fengshan County. It is a land of natural wonders.
