Once named Eastwood, the city of Eastpointe has a story etched in every street. Eastpointe is a city of many names. It is a place where community pride meets historical evolution. Welcome to Eastpointe Michigan.

Eastpointe began as a farming community. In the early 19th century, it was known as Eastwood. The name changed to Halfway in 1924. This was because of its location between Detroit and Mount Clemens.

Halfway became East Detroit in 1929. This name reflected its growing urban development. It also showed its ties to Detroit. Finally, in 1992, it became Eastpointe. The aim was to create a unique identity.

Eastpointe is located in Macomb County. It occupies a compact area of just 5.1 square miles. Do not underestimate its offerings. The city balances residential commercial and public spaces.

Eastpointe has a diverse population. It includes African American White Asian and Hispanic residents. This blend creates a vibrant cultural scene. The city values education. Many residents hold high school diplomas and higher education degrees.

Eastpointe is in Michigan’s 9th congressional district. Democrat Andy Levin has represented this district since 2019. Eastpointe is also part of Michigan’s 10th State Senate district. State Senator Michael D. MacDonald represents it. Kevin Hertel represents Eastpointe in the Michigan House of Representatives. He is in the 18th district.

Eastpointe offers a suburban lifestyle. The city has tree-lined streets and affordable housing. It is near Detroit so residents can access big-city amenities.

Eastwood Park provides green space for recreation. Golfers enjoy the local Eastwood Golf Course. Eastpointe Community Schools offer education from kindergarten through high school.

The American Power Boat Association is headquartered here. At one time Spirit Airlines had its headquarters in Eastpointe. Art Van Elslander opened his first Art Van store here in 1959.

Cruisin’ Gratiot is a popular annual event. It celebrates automotive history with car shows and live music. The Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum is also in Eastpointe.

Eastpointe operates under a council-manager form of government. The city has a mayor and four council members. In 2017 Eastpointe elected its first African-American councilwoman Monique Owens.

Eastpointe is the Gateway to Macomb County. It is known as a Family Town. The city offers municipal services to residents businesses and property owners.
